TITLE: Registered Behavior Technician

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 21,000 students and 60+ different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. With Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian. To serve our students, the district employs approximately 4,000 employees including more than 1,800 teachers.  

 

JOB GOAL: To provide behavior analysis services, behavior analytic consultations, and collaborate with teams to implement behavior intervention plans for Special education students receiving specially designed instruction. These actions are completed under the direct supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) would provide support and professional learning to school staff, and paraprofessionals in appropriate behavior intervention techniques; support the conduction of assessments and support the development of plans that conform to IDEA, Kansas law and regulations and other applicable statutes and regulation bodies.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The RBT performs the following essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Observe students in multiple educational settings, and remain covert throughoutthe observation period.
  • Collect data as directed by the BCBA, and ensure that the behavior observed meets the operational definition, and is accurate.
  • The RBT is responsible for implementing behavior intervention plans as directed by the supervising BCBA.
  • Model behavior change procedures, and ensure staff are able to complete the required procedure.
  • Conduct training for educational stakeholders, and assist with delivering professional development.
  • Complete fidelity checks of behavior intervention plans, and various behavior analytic strategies that have been recommended to educational teams by the BCBA.
  • Deliver services by working with students in a 1:1 setting, as needed.
  • Attend monthly meetings as required by supervising BCBA.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required; Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education or related field preferred
  • Must hold a current, and valid credential from the Behavior Analyst CertificationBoard (BACB) detailing RBT certification.
  • Registered, and locatable through the BACB site.
  • Maintain good standing with the BACB throughout employment.
  • Meets the employment qualifications set forth by the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education and the Kansas State Department of Education.

 

COMMUNICATION

  • Communicate well in written, and verbal contexts with parents, staff, students, and other educational professionals.
  • Support presentations, and professional development in large and small groups with supervising BCBA.
  • Respond to written correspondence professionally, and in a timely manner.
  • Maintains communication with teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students.
  • Completes accident/incident reports for students/staff.
  • Compiles data for analysis between the educational team, and BCBA/RBT team.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding educational records.

 

ORGANIZATION

  • Maintains a daily log of school/staff visits and required documentation.
  • Must have the ability to travel to multiple locations throughout the work day.
  • Must be flexible regarding scheduling, working conditions, and location of work.
  • May require physical exertion.
  • Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.
  • Performs other related work as required

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public. Ability to participate in collaborations with school teams whose learners come from diverse backgrounds, and have diverse cultural backgrounds.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 196 Days                                                             
SALARY:  Based on KCKPS Salary Schedule
FLSA STATUS: Exempt         

REPORT TO:  Executive Director of Special Education or Designee
Evaluation:  Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the KCKPS Board of
Education policy.
