TITLE: Storeroom Manager

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and 60+ different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. With Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 51% Hispanic, 27% African American, 11% White, and 7% Asian. To serve our students, the district employs approximately 4,000 employees including more than 1,600 teachers.
JOB GOAL:
The job of Storeroom Manager is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the warehousing operations with specific responsibilities for maintaining required inventory levels; ensuring specifications, quantity and quality of order are correct; verifying stock and identifying losses; and maintaining an organized warehouse layout, ensuring that assignments are completes in a safe, proper and timely manner and directing assigned workers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Storeroom Manager supervises storeroom clerks, custodians.
- Cleans warehouse and trains new employees for the purpose of maintaining a safe and sanitary work area.
- Conducts physical inventories for the purpose of verifying stock and identifying losses.
- Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and records (e.g. loss, expenditures, history of utilization, schedules, calendars, requisitions, music catalogue, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and providing reliable resource information.
- Orders equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
- Prepares orders by pulling from stock for the purpose of meeting delivery requirements.
- Processes report requests, documents, deliveries and/or materials for the purpose of disseminating information and/or materials to appropriate parties.
- Receives stock and non-stock items for the purpose of ensuring specifications, quantity and quality of orders are correct.
- Researches discrepancies on orders and/or invoices (e.g. overages, shortages, duplicate deliveries, etc.) for the purpose of correcting errors and/or returning damaged/incorrect items to vendors.
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external services for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding the invoices, billing, status of deliveries, etc.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
- Supervisory ability; two years of Storeroom experience preferred.
- A program of self-development, most desirable.
- A willingness to work overtime as required, to ensure that late shipping arrival requirements are satisfied, and that emergency situations can be met.
- Ability to communicate with the purchasing agent, staff, and persons at all levels in the school community so that the necessary support requirements for educational programs may be provided.
- The requirements for technical knowledge will vary with the Storeroom facility and equipment.
- Able to prove computer skills and willingness to gain proper training for changing software.
COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION: Maintains communication with district staff.
Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.
Performs other related work as required.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: materials handling procedures; inventory techniques; warehouse equipment; and safety practices and procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling frequent climbing and balancing frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 30% sitting, up to 100% walking, and up to 100% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
