TITLE:     Title I Instructional Aide

 

LOCATION:  St. Patrick's

 

JOB GOAL: 

To assist the teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual

Students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a

whole.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Participates in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning.
  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Conducts learning exercises with small groups of students.
  • Operates and cares for equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  • Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual students.
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Provides escort and assistance to the children as necessary.
  • Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
  • Assist teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas.
  • Assist with supervision of children during regular play periods, field trips, assemblies or emergency drills.
  • Other related classroom duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:            

High School Diploma

48 undergraduate credits

Willingness to assist teacher in instructional activities

Experience as a teacher’s aide, preferred

Academic preparation in education, preferred

 

COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION: Maintains communication with school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students.

Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.

Performs other related work as required.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  The employee must occasionally push items of 50 pounds such as pushing on a bike or wheelchair, or moving/rearranging furniture.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

SALARY:                  Kansas City Kansas Public Schools Salary Schedule

 

FLSA STATUS:       NON-EXEMPT, HOURLY
