TITLE:         ESL Instructional Coach (Immediate Position)

 

LOCATION: TBD (Applications will be reviewed prior to the closing date)

 

JOB GOAL:

To develop all teachers to function at high effective levels as demonstrated by student achievement data. To ensure students make continuous improvements in state and national performance levels to prepare students for college and careers in a global society, and at every level, performance is on-track and on-time for success. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops teachers to improve their practices as evidenced by improved student achievement on district formative and standardized measures
  • Improves classroom practice through the use of data driven decisions, planning for learning and implementation, analysis of impact, resulting in higher levels of student achievement
  • Utilizes effective and research based culturally responsive coaching practices
  • Uses principles of adult learning and effective facilitation in the planning and implementation of professional development (in-service and classroom embedded)
  • Design and delivery of standards-based professional development (Building and District in-service, embedded, and Professional Learning Communities)
  • Skilled in facilitation of “learning focused conversations” (Wellman and Lipton as an example)
  • Demonstrates ability to coach teachers to use data to change classroom practice
  • Supports teachers to become reflective thinkers using models such as gradual release model
  • Understands and deploys best practice curriculum management process
  • Supports implementation of and assessment of Guaranteed Viable Curriculum and required District instructional approaches
  • Serves as content expert in one or more content areas, with thorough knowledge of Standards (National, State, and District) and content-knowledge
  • Ability to support integration of 21st century skills into the curriculum
  • Demonstrates high levels of proficiency in leadership behaviors and professional deportment
  • Establish trust by empowering, developing, and effectively communicating with staff, students, parents, and community
  • Foster a culture of and demonstrate behavior congruent with the “District Values and Expectations”
  • Align actions, time, and resources to support full implementation of KCKPS 5-Step Process resulting in attainment of the District Goal and Indicators of Success
  • Engage in (or facilitate) professional learning and growth, as a learner and leader
  • Other duties as assigned by Assistant Superintendent
  • Ability to work a full duty day in the location or locations assigned
  • Physical and emotional ability to perform required work and move about as needed in the fast-paced, highly intensive school environment
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance

QUALIFICATIONS:

3-5 years effective teaching experience preferred as evident by favorable  references, portfolio, evaluations

Experience as a teacher leader as evidenced by student achievement data and other impact data included in a professional portfolio

Masters Degree in Education or related field (or plan of study on file and active progression to complete degree program) in an agreed upon timeframe

Maintains Kansas Teaching License in appropriate content area and level.

Demonstrated expertise in one or more content areas

Demonstrated effective coaching practices

Demonstrated ability to design, implement effective instruction resulting in students meeting or exceeding standards

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  The employee must occasionally push items of 50 pounds such as pushing on a bike ore wheelchair, or moving/rearranging furniture.  While performing the duties of the job the employee occasionally may visit a child’s home.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

 

COMMUNICATION

Maintains communication with teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students.

Provides health services, information, and counseling in an effective and positive manner to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.

Completes accident/incident reports for students/staff.

Compiles data for statistical purposes.

Maintains confidentiality regarding educational records. 

 

ORGANIZATION

Maintains a daily log of school/staff visits and documentation.

Maintains the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies.

Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.

Performs other related work as required.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Is directly responsible for students’ safety, work output and well-being.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication. 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 186 days with extended contract for additional days.  Flexible daily and yearly schedule established by the Assistant Superintendent based on regularly reviewed work plan.  

SALARY:              Based on KCKPS Salary Schedule

FLSA:                  EXEMPT

 

REPORTS TO:     District Coach of Implementation and Assistant Superintendent

 

EVALUATION:    Performance is evaluated by the Assistant Superintendent in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy.
