TITLE:   Administrative Support Professional – KCKPS Police Department

 

LOCATION: North Central Office

 

 

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students. With a Head Start program, three preschools, 30 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, the district serves a wonderfully diverse mixture of students. A remarkable 62 different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. To serve those students, the district employs approximately 3,650 staff, including more than 1,600 teachers.

Our goal is that "Each student will exit high school prepared for college and careers in a global society, and at every level, performance is on track and on time for success." To help our students achieve this goal, the district is implementing a district-wide initiative called Diploma+.

 

 

JOB GOAL: Provide administrative and secretarial support to assigned administrative personnel; compile information and implement assigned tasks and activities; and provide information, recommendations and/or direction as requested by assigned administrator.

 

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides a warm customer service environment whether in person or via phone to district students, staff and guests
  • Receives incoming calls and communicates appropriate information to staff
  • Assist with handling requests or elevating higher level issues to the appropriate level
  • Accurately record and report all necessary information baring confidentially in mind
  • Prepare and process district forms as assigned
  • Successfully performs routine data entry information utilizing established district systems
  • Performs and assumes general clerical tasks as assigned which include, but are not limited to preparation of correspondence, forms, reports, calendars, and meeting preparations
  • Work proactively with cross-functional staff and collaborate effectively with internal departments
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid Kansas Driver’s License
  • Must submit to a pre-employment background check with no felony or major misdemeanor convictions as required by the State of Kansas for criminal justice agencies
  • Hold and maintain an NCIC Certification within one (1) year of employment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

 

COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION:

Speak clearly and concisely in written and oral form.

Maintain communication with all constituents including district staff.

Utilize existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.

Organize work efficiently in order to support the mission and vision of Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from internal and external sources.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Generally, the job requires 90% sitting, 5% walking and 5% standing. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job is performed indoors in a generally clean and healthy climate controlled environment. The noise level is usually quiet.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all constituents including district staff.  Ability to maintain professionalism and respond appropriately in all situations. 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 261 days per year

 

RATE OF PAY:  Based on the KCKPS Classified Salary Schedule

 

FLSA STATUS:  NON-EXEMPT

 

REPORT TO:  Chief of Police

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy.
